Malaysian Food Bazar in Kuwait 2012

As salam...

I've been mentioning that I've been busy in few posts away. Besides normal chores, most of my time during that period was occupied with Malaysian Food Bazaar, a charity event hosted by PERWAKILAN in Kuwait. As a part of Perwakilan committee, I was involved in planning for the event from scratch. Anyhow, due to lack of manpower, I was requested to prepare, cook and sell one of the planned cuisine which is Nasi Lemak. Although, clearly I am not a very good cook, I took up the challenge, try my best I must and leave the rest to Allah s.w.t.

Someone whom I had high respect once told me, a successful event determined by 80 % planning and 20 % implementation, to which I can't agree more.

After meeting after meeting months before the actual day, the breakdown menu that we decided to sell was as below :

Nasi's stall - Nasi Lemak, Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang

Mee's stall - Mee rebus, Mee Soto and Laksa Penang

Kueh's stall - Bingka jagung, Kueh Lapis and Kueh Bakar

Snacks's stall - Various kerepek like kueh ros, Kueh gunting, Buah rotan and such

Goreng goreng's stall - Keropok Lekor, Goreng Pisang and Pau Goreng

Live cooking station - Mee Goreng, Kueyteow Goreng and Satay ( Beef and Chicken)

Beverages - Teh Tarik, plain syrup and Sirap Bandung

Since this is our first event ever, we decided to keep it small and humble by narrowing down the guests list to embassies, expat and Malaysian only.

The venue of the event is at Malaysian Embassy compound.

The event started at 12.00 noon but we were already there since around 10 am setting up our stalls and preparing our foods.

:: Ayam Goreng Rempah. I've decided to fry the chicken on the site and it occurred that I made just the right choice :). Not only I can serve it hot and fresh, the spices smell is very inviting and does play important role in our sales that day ha ha ha ::

The Bazaar is opened from 11.30 am till 13.00 pm for expat and embassies people and family and continued from 13.00 till 16.00 for Malaysian. We used coupon system just like Canteen Day so that the cash flow will be manageable by only appointed staffs and the seller would only need to collect coupons from customer.

I don't mean to brag but I can called the event beyond success from the feedback of the customers and crowd that were coming that day, despite it being the first event ever hosted by us. The embassy even invited local press and media from Al-Watan paper and also crew from Morning Talk Show of Pinoy TV.

:: The crowd of the day. Everybody was very energetic and cheerful and thank you Allah for the very sporting crowd. They didn't hesitate and being very adventurous in trying all Malaysian food we had prepared that day ::

The event ended around 5 pm and alhamdulillah, it's one successful and memorable event for everyone.

I think 2 days after the event, my friend posted a screen shot from Al-Watan paper on her FB wall and tagged me to it. As I opened the snapshot I was surprised and slightly embarrassed to see a familiar faces

*blush* on the paper. Thank you Al-Watan for coming and for featuring our humble event in your paper. This is indeed one experience to treasure.

As for the Pinoy TV, they released the edited youtube clip a day after the event and they certainly did a great job. Thank a lot guys.

After all that's been said and done, I was hoping that we could do this again in future and was more than willing to contribute whatever needed. As our initial intention in organising this Bazaar, apart from raising fund for perwakilan, partly of the proceed from this event will goes to charity hence I was hoping that not only we could gained new experiences in this life, but also added our shares in after life, Insya Allah. May our intention be realized by Allah s.w.t and may everyone involved be it directly or indirectly be rewarded with Jannnah.
