Comfort food is food prepared traditionally that may have a nostalgic or sentimental appeal.[1] Comfort foods may be foods that have a nostalgic element either to an individual or a specific culture.

Above are definition of comfort food from Wikipedia. To me, comfort food is the kind of food to be enjoyed at the comfort of your home, simple food that'll surely gives you homey and cozy feeling and something that you can cook by heart, no recipe whatsoever, just your hunch and memories needed. My main comfort food is sambal! Any sambal will do, but today I'll share with you something else that never failed to provide me comfort and delivered those comfortable sense of homey feeling. In short, foods that makes you sleep at nite with smile.

Let start with breakkie shall we...

:: As much as I loved nasi lemak or mee goreng for breakfast, having Egg Benedict once in a while is quite a pleasure and most importantly, it's undoubtedly easy peasy and filling ::

:: Sprinkled some pepper/black pepper, oregano and even cheese. It really is up to your liking .Sky is the limit ::

:: Ready ! ::

Lunch.....................

:: Udang Goreng Kunyit. Simple yet full of flavor. Just dumped everything in, onion, garlic, cili padi, curry leaves, combined with the taste of turmeric and prawn itself. Quite a combo we had here. Just give me sambal belacan to pair with it and I'm a happy woman ::

:: Chicken Soup for sick soul at home. If others failed, this meal will definitely brought back your kids appetite. Paired with rice porridge and Alis gobbled up the entire bowl ::

:: Lemak Cili Padi Udang. Need I say more? ::

:: Kobis Goreng. To my personal liking, kobis goreng need to be crunchy, a bit salty and greeny. You know sometimes you would find overcooked, soggy kobis goreng at hawker centre, or nasi campur stalls. It depends on one's preferences lah kan. Some like it soggy, some like it slightly under cooked and some likes it raw, but at my home, specially when my father is around, sayur need to be done his way, crunchy and greeny it is ::

:: Ikan Gelama Kering. Since ikan kering was practically "barang kawalan" here, dua keping seminggu cukup! Personally I think salted fish is a great side dish for any meals but works it's best with santan-y meal. Kari, lemak putih and lemak cili padi just to name a few. The hint of salty-ness in every bites somehow completed the meal. Meme kene gu lah kato ore panta timor ! ::

Tea Time .............

:: You have left over rice? This is one good way to make use of it. Apam beras. Honestly, I don't really like this apam but I made this batch one day because my mom loves it. Not like she's gonna be here to taste it, just the smells of this apam while it's being steamed, helps me get over with my homesick :) ::

:: If you're not a really good cook, you can camouflaged your lil flaw and get away with it with some creative-ness. Who can say no to pinky heart and star shape's apam? In conclusion, if you are not really talented in cooking department, use vibrant colour and fancy shapes cutter. I think the saying looks can be deceiving was meant for people like me ha ha ha ha... Sekian tips yang humble dari saya ! ::

:: Although it was not as tasty as my mom's version, it actually turned out alright. Most importantly, it did taste like apam I swear! ::

Last but not least... dessert! I used to read, or errrrrr heard this somewhere, you can have 4 bad meals and get away with 1 excellent dessert. That's how important desserts are to culinary world I guess. I am not really a sweet tooth and so did my husband but there's always a room for chocolate cake.

I had this ramekins for quite sometimes already and been toying with the idea of trying to whip out molten cake from scratch but couldn't find recipe easy enough for me to play with. I had this bad habit of reading the "HOW TO MAKE" part first instead of the ingredients while searching for recipe. The moments I saw any usage of mixer, I'll click button X and move on to next recipe hahah. Sadly I don't own a mixer, heck I didn't even have hand mixer. It's true that some recipes did suggested that if we don't own a mixer at home, fret not. You can manually whisks your batter. My advice, DON'T BUY IT, like seriously DON'T with a capital kah kah kah. Believe me I had tried many recipes and lesson learned, if the recipe said to use mixer, go get yourself a mixer else, bookmarked the page and try it once you own one :).

Anyway, I found this simple recipe and decided to give it a try.

:: As can be seen, I put too much batter in my ramekins, resulted to overflowing cake. Next try, fill only 3/4 of the ramekin ye puan puan. To my defense, I had only 4 ramekins so I was too lazy to make next batch, you know lah kena cuci the ramekins, butter it and dust it all over again. Acik malas lah to which explained the membuak2 batter. Bad decision! Definitely bad decision. ::

:: I need to do some trimming to the cake so it will be blog-worthy. The base texture was not very smooth as I was rushing into taking it out of the ramekin. It was superrr hot and I'm so eager to taste it. This could be the ugliest molten cake you've ever seen ha ha ha ::

:: Yeayyyyyy, without the chocolate larva overflowing from the center part of the cake, this will be just a regular chocolate cake, and it is easily means, your cake is overcooked. And with the chocolate larva as a proof, I hereby call it a success. For a non-baker like me, this is indeed a huge achievement ! And when Erin ate like 3 pieces of this, that's definitely a huge reward ::
