Sempena my 6th wedding Anniversary, The company organized small gathering among staff in Q8 for berbuka puasa event at Lebanese restaurant called Mais Al-Ghanim.

Chehh chehh chehh... Ko ingat ko CEO company, anniversary ko orang nk wat makan makan ?

The part about the company host a berbuka puasa event for staffs was correct, the part involved my anniversary, however sadly to say, was added for a bit of melodrama effect. It just happened that the event fall on the same day with my anni. I'm not that fussy, as long as there's free food and nice dining place putting into combination, I wouldn't really mind who's paying the bill :).

As usual, the event falls again on the day husband is working. What a coincidence ehh.. 1st with the embassy, now with company event. Since the restaurant was located near Fintas, bachelor's barrack, which also a last pit stop for company driver because he practically live there, he offered to send us again. May Allah bless him !

{ Camwhore before the event. Summer dress was from Dubai with love, sponsored by Lim's family}

Of course they had to fetch us 1st. They reached around 6 pm and we immediately make our way to the restaurant.

{ Vain pose}

The place was not that far from home. Located just by the road side. We dun have tough time finding it. Pretty straight forward direction.

{ This is the restaurant I'm talking about. It was located at the same row with TGI friday, Fatburgers and Fish Market}

Took few snap outside the restaurant and then moved inside. It's steamy-windy weather outside. Most of my friends already there and seated, so I opted our seats and settled down as the waiter had begin serving the starter.

{In front the not yet open restaurant hahah. Mais Al-Ghanim entrance was on my left actually. When asked of what to wear, En Muddy said only one word. " JUBAH" .. okay boss !!! With that stern tone of his, U dun reason, U just follow. *cough* *cough*}

{ Set set jahat. Hahhah just kidding, half of the staff, another half preferred to sit in comfortable air-conditioned dining place located in glass room on top of their heads, including me }

Live up to it's name, Mais Al-Ghanim served authentic food from Lebanon. Maybe not really my choice of dishes for berbuka, changes for once is good. Where else you can get to taste origin lebanese food? The food are as good as you eating in Lebanon it self.

{ Waiting for adzan}

What we had for starter ? Hmm let see.. They served 2 different types of hummus ( lentil puree with olive oil, if i'm not wrong), iran Qubs and crackers, two types of soup of our choice ( lentil soup and chicken soup where chicken soup menang tanpa bertanding). One of the guy who picked lentil soup commented this " Sama jek macam hirup kuah dal roti canai kat kedai mamak malaysia " . hahahahhaa . They also served local lebanese salads.

{ The salad. Didn't try though so have no idea what it tasted like}

We started with the starter 1st and then mens went for Maghrib prayer, followed by ladies. If back home, ladies will have our own surau, covered. In here, men pray in covered surau, while us ladies, they just put one big rug outside the surau entrance, and bentang 3 sejadahs for us to use, right in the middle of basement parking lot, with no cover at all. Even the toilet for wudhu, was unisex. We had to share with other men who also wanted to take wudhu. I dun mean to spread negatives vibes here, but to me, they could done better.

{Another salad}

{Hummus, you can eat it with Qubs or you can eat it on it's own. Nobody really care}

{ White sourish gravy. Didn't taste this either}

When I came back from prayer, the guys already started eating the main course. Beriyani Chicken and Nasi Daging ( I think they called it Pilaf. Not very sure).

Without further due, we started eat. I kinda like their version of beriyani chicken. It tasted more like nasik tomato than beriyani. The rice even has tomato chunk in it. Sweet and sour combination, me likey.

{ The rice doesn't look like this when I reached my table. Let just say, there's only 1/2 portion of the rice left and small cube of chicken that Alis ate most of it. I tell you, our men need to be taught on how to be gentleman. Did they ever heard of ladies 1st? I wonder }

{ Beriyani Daging. Doesn't look very tempting to me. This is one meal I wouldn't kecik hati kalau derang abeskan. They can eat the plate also if they want}

Once we done with our main course, the waiter started to circled us for tea or coffee order. Since I am feeling lack of adventurous lately considering I didn't eat most of the food that night , I ordered something out of my norm. Normally I would order tea, no nego whatsoever but that night, I opted for Turkish coffee-sweet. Husband chose Turkish coffee-medium. The waiter just left with our order but I am feeling adventurous already kah kah kah.

Something funny happened between me and the waiter while he was taking order. I was busy chatting with my colleague and attending to Alis and Erin at the same time. So when the waiter approached me :

Pinoy waiter : Madam, would you like coffee or tea?

Me : chat chat chat, Alis, jangan main kerusi.. chat chat chat pusing kepala facing the waiter.. " Coffee please".. chat chat chat.. Erin, jgn main pisau.

Pinoy waiter : Nescafe or Turkish coffee Madam.

Me : feeding Erin.. head turning left and right looking for Alis.. Umm Turkish one, thank you.

Pinoy waiter : Black, medium or sweet Madam.

Me : still feeding Erin, still looking for Alis, jenguk En Muddy and tanye Dee amik medium ?.. Sweet... me sweet.

Pinoy Waiter : Yes, U're very sweet madam. So you want sweet turkish coffee.

Me : Smiled sheepishly.. yes.. I am sweet ehhhhh.. I want sweet.. * blushing*

Pinoy Waiter : Yes, u sweet madam.

Me : Thank you, thank you.

He left.... and everyone get their coffee few minutes after that, except me. I was too busy chatting to noticed. The same waiter came to check on our order and realized that I haven't get my coffee..

Pinoy Waiter : Madam, u still didn't get ur coffee... sweet ..

Me : Yeah, not yet..

Pinoy waiter : Ok.. I'll get for you your coffee, sweet..

This is started to get embarrassing. The whole table like smiling to me wakkakka... I wished I had shell that day.

For info, I dun intentionally said I'm sweet okayyy...I just stuttered duuhhhh...

A little bit about the interior. I so very like the decor and the small small details they use. Some of the decor was look like it wasn't belong there, but that's make it unique.

{ Love this chandelier very much. Beeeeeauuutifulllll !}

{ some of the antiques they had }

{Nice isn't it? The decor I meant of course heheh. It's rude to ask the fellow gentlemen here to duck their head just because I wanted some sword and dagger photo}

{ Some part of the wall was decorated with murals and picture of some local Arabian house and lifestyle. Very artsy}

In between coffee, they served fruits and Arabic desserts. Heaven for your stomach, hell for your waist, I meant the desserts. The kueh was so sweet, perfect for sweet tooth like En Muddy, but not for me. Everything was too sweet for my liking so I opted for fruits instead.

{ That karipap look alike doesn't taste close enough to karipap ye kawan kawan. The skin taste like apam balik skin and the filling was custard. I was told that this kueh can only be found during Ramadhan so it's pretty special. The other one that look like stick, was actually biscuit dipped in honey. }

Update on 21/8/10 : I just came to know the name of above desserts. Karipap look alike was called Qatayef Qeshta, the finger food look alike was called Balah El Sham and the rounded kueh was called Awameh.

{ Fruits}

The dinner ended around 8.45 pm. Some of the clan are going to Friday Market at Lulu, that open till 1 am in the morning. Since all shops here open mostly after break fast time, they closed quite late around 1 am to 2 am in the morning. Business peak hours during ramadhan was 11 pm. Crazy ehh, I already on my bed, in my pajama by that time.

{ Us and the mural}

{ Kids in action}

We excused ourself around 9 pm since En Muddy working the next morning. Reached home around 9.30 am and after refreshed ourself, En Muddy and Erin called the day off. Alis on another hand, having troubled to sleep so she decided to do some colouring using my laptop, hence I helped with her coloring and kept her company.

I shall close this post with Alis's finish product.

{ Topic : Local fruits. I drew and she did the coloring part. Looking at this image, clearly drawing was not one of my forte hahaaha }
